ENGINE OPERATOR WORKSHOP
The Interagency Engine Operator Workshop held annually in Moab, Utah, is in its seventh year. This course has proven to be an invaluable tool in providing both perspective and seasoned wildland firefighters with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively and safely utilize engines in wildfire environments. The workshop is also intended to provide a solid foundation of information and hands-on training upon which to build strong job skills. In recent years, pre-season Readiness Reviews have shown that the levels of expertise and proficiency possessed by Engine Modules, which make up the bulk of BLM fire suppression courses, vary widely from one location to another. This situation appears to be the result of a lack of standards and, in part, a lack of standardized training. The problem is being addressed by developing and implementing Engine Operator training packages, Engine Operator task books, and Fire Maintenance Procedure and Record Books. The 2008 Engine Operator Workshop has been designed to address and clarify inconsistencies, and will incorporate both academics taught in a classroom setting with local field exercises. The class will be held April 14-18. Terry Tilford will be the Lead Instructor. Engine Operator Workshop Info and Contact Info
