Milford Flat Fire Start Date: July 6, 2007 at 1545 Location: Started 3 miles north of Milford, UT. Burning in Millard and Beaver counties. Cause: Lightning Size: An estimated 311,000 (469 square miles) acres have burned. More accurate acreage will be obtained later today from a GPS flight. Contained: 10% Estimated Containment: Undetermined Fuels: Sage brush, grass, juniper. Fire is burning in a north-northeast direction. Structures Threatened: Approximately 330 scattered structures threatened. One summer home (uninhabited) and two outbuildings were burned. Evacuations: No evacuations at this time. Resources: 300+ firefighters (additional crews ordered and arriving throughout the day), 2 single-engine air tankers, 2 heavy helicopters, 30 engines, 3 water tenders, 9 dozers, 7 crews. Additional crews and resources on order. The Muir National Management Team assumed management of the fire Monday morning at 0600. The Incident Command Post in located in the Kanosh town park. Other: At least two confirmed fatalities (vehicle accidents on I-15). Contact Utah Highway Patrol for more information. I-15 is currently open but alternate travel plans are advised as roads may close on short notice. There could be more periodic closures of I-15. Crews are experiencing extreme fire behavior with heavy running and spotting in fine fuels. Greenville Bench Prescribed Fire is not connected to this fire.
