Interagency Engine Operator Workshop
Each year the Interagency Engine Operator Workshop (PMS 410) is held in Moab, Utah, in the early spring. This was our 9th year presenting this course and it was again very successful.
The effective use of an engine is critical for managing fires safely and efficiently during both initial and extended attack. The challenge of improving quality and uniformity in training is very important. Standardized training is addressed each year with the development and implementation of the Engine Operator Course (PMS 410).
The Field Exercise Station presentations were a big hit with the students. Each scenario helps build confidence in the students. The simulations were realistic and well thought out.
Mechanics from The Apparatus Garage, located in Salt Lake City, volunteered to come down and talk about engine maintenance. This was a great hit with the students. The students learned how important it is to keep their equipment in good working order.
We are looking forward to the next workshop in April of 2011.
