Polly’s Peak Fire October 3, 2006, 09:30 a.m. Start Date: September 29, 2006 Contact: Karen Feary, 435-201-0209 Cause: Under investigation (human-caused). Current Size: 1,586 acres. Increase in acreage due to burnouts to secure fire line Location: 2 miles east of Fountain Green, Sanpete County. The fire is burning mostly on BLM lands managed by the Richfield Field Office, with some State and private land . Containment: 80% with containment expected today. Terrain: Steep and rocky. Vegetation: Pinyon and juniper, grass, some sagebrush. Resources: Total personnel – 34 personnel and equipment on the fire today include:
Fire Behavior: Smoldering, creeping with interior isolated torching.. Closures: Road closures still in effect on Big Hollow Road, but open for cabin owners to check their cabins.. Structures Threatened: Private cabins and turkey sheds. Injuries: None. Narrative: The 20-person handcrew from Ft. Apache, Arizona, is assisting with mop-up operations today. With the moisture received yesterday the fire activity has diminished to smoldering in spots. The fire is now considered to be a type 4 operation. The IC is the Sanpete County Fire Warden. Many thanks go to all the Volunteer Fire Departments who are assisting. The public is urged to use caution when out in the wildlands, especially with campfires.
